I am a native South Dakotan who has spent many years in the Southwest, eating Mexican style food near its source. To find something as good as Casa del Rey in the culinary boondocks of SD was for me truly astonishing. In addition to the excellent crispy homemade chips and salsa, they presented me with one of the hardest US-Mexican dishes to prepare correctly and did it with style, namely the chimichanga. A real treat, so often a disappointment! I ordered it "straight up" (as I always do), as I don't want it screwed up with some messy sauce that will wilt the crispness. And crispy it was, one of the best I have had in recent times. Super crunchy and with a really good spiced meat filling. Had to restrain myself from eating with both hands, as my wife was present. If I had been alone, I would have ordered a second. Sheer bliss on the chimichanga front. Well done, Casa del Rey of Sioux Falls. I will be back someday.

The first sign of trouble came upon calling the restaurant and inquiring about directions from our hotel, we were told "We're right behind the arena. We have a business next to us. Mad Dogs or something?" Least. Helpful. Directions. Ever. The chips were fine but the salsa was straight off a grocery store shelf. Might have been watered down Pace or something equivalent. Not great. I got a combination plate, which included a hardshell taco, a burrito, an enchilada and the refried beans and rice. The taco shell was stale, and although the rest of the food was not bad, it was oddly flavored and a bit liqudy and loose. The beef was nicely flavored and the rice was fine. The beans tasted canned. The service was nice, but a dining companion ordered extra avocado and they put the dish right on the lettuce on the main dish plate. Ugh. All in all, it's pretty safe Mexican food but... eh, it wasn't for me or my companions. I don't think a return is in the cards for me.

Stopped here because it was close to the hotel I was at, and I was in the mood for guacamole. First off, the quac was lame. More of a Avacodo dip than anything else. Just processed avacodo, and a few bits of tomatoes sprinkled on top. I ordered the steak fajita chimi. It was loaded with caramelized onions and a few little pieces of what they called their fajita meat. Not fresh cooked at all. Waitress was polite but not very attentive. When she asked if I liked it, I was honest and told her not really. She took the dinner platter away, and said dinner was on them. So she has that going for her. If I return to the area I will likely not come back. I settled on a corn dog from a near by gas station, it was better than what I had been served. Two stars only because of the service although inattentive, she comped the meal.

This was truly a lousy experience. The food was absolutely horrible. Lobster Taquitos over priced. Friendly service but slow and bland food. Terrible salsa. Even chopped jalapeños couldn't help it.We had chile relleno, black bean soup and sea food chimmi. Chips were right out of the grocery store and the salsa might as well have been tomato juice. Waste of $100.

I liked what I ordered but had to douse it in hot sauce to give it more of a spicy kick. The chips and salsa were reminiscent of my beloved chi chi's which was a restaurant that closed down several years ago. The pitcher supplied to me at the table was nice. No one likes an empty glass. The guacamole was great! I loved the meal overall and walked out very full and happy! It would be a 4 star if the taste wasn't so Americanized and had more flavor. Also there were off-duty employees in there talking loudly and laughing like hyenas or id give this a 5. I'd do a 3.5 but there's no option

Showed up at 10 on a Friday night, one hour before closing. Server was really nice and food took only a couple of minutes to come out. Four awesome hot sauces are served at each table. I had the seafood enchiladas and it was incredible. A little on the expensive side at 13-something for two enchiladas but well worth it.

My wife thinks this place is good, I went with her for her birthday and ordered steak instead of Mexican, I already had that and was not impressed. Well I found out that they don't know how to grill a steak medium rare, or maybe it was too thin to to grill to order. Next time she can go by herself on her birthday. I have been there 9-10 times over the years with family functions but I guess I just don't get why they choose this place. Next time I will eat before I get there and drink beer.

They sat us immediately, there was a pitcher of water waiting at the table for us with a large basket of chips and 2 dishes of salsa right after we sat down. My Dad had the shredded pork burrito while I had the chicken enchiladas, both were very good and came out very fast. Bottomless cup of coffee for my Dad and a large cup of Pepsi for myself. Has a nice atmosphere and very good service, well worth a visit.

I never actually write reviews on Yelp - I just read others. However, for this restaurant I felt the need to write about how TERRIBLE this place was. The service was exceptional - servers were super nice & the food came out fast. But the food itself..... DISGUSTING! The salsa tasted like it came out of a 10 year old can from a bomb shelter and the chips were a little stale. Both of our entrees were terrible. I've never had such terrible Mexican food in my life!!!

I've eaten here since I was little. I love the free chips and salsa! It may not be as authentic as a place like Puerto Vallarta but I love it. I usually get the original chimichanga but I'm trying the chicken queso chimi tonight. Also love the sopapillas with cinnamon & sugar with honey! Also, you can usually walk in and be seated quickly even on a Saturday night.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
